Texas Creek is an extensive trail system that provides great views of the Arkansas River Valley and the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. With many different trails spanning the spectrum in difficulty, all riders can find something to enjoy on these trails.
How To Get There
From Salida: Head east out of town on E Rainbow Blvd/US-50 E. Continue approx 31.1 miles to Fremont Co Rd 27. Turn north on Fremont Co Rd 27 to access trails.

Stay the Trail - Penrose Commons
Fremont County, Colorado
This area offers extreme rock crawling routes as well as a few easier motorized routes. The Independence system features the difficult Freedom, Liberty, and Patriot 4x4 trails. Please be aware that body damage and part failure is likely on those trails.
How To Get There
From Penrose: Head north out of town on CO-115. Continue approx 1.3 miles to 3rd St/Co Rd 123. Head west on 3rd St approx 0.3 to E St. Turn north on E St and follow approx 0.2 miles where it will turn into Co Rd 127. Follow approx 2.9 miles to trail head.

Stay the Trail - Rainbow Trail
Custer County, Colorado
The Rainbow Trail runs for over 100 miles along the eastern edge of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains from Salida to Westcliffe. Medano Pass Road intersects the Rainbow Trail before terminating in the Great Sand Dunes National Park. Only licensed, street-legal vehicles are allowed west of the Medano Pass summit and into the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve.
How To Get There
From Westcliffe: Head south on S 6th St/CO-69 for approx. 3 miles. Turn right at County Rd-140/Schoolfield Rd. Continue on County Rd-140 for approx 5.5 miles to Alvarado Campground
Detailed Description
The Rainbow Trail is open to motorcycles and ATVs. The Medano Pass Trail is open to licensed, street-legal full-size 4WD vehicles and motorcycles.
Note
Only street-legal, licensed vehicles are allowed to enter the Medano Pass trail from the west through Great Sand Dunes National Park. Unlicensed vehicles are allowed to approach the park from the east but must turn around at Medano Pass and are not allowed to enter the Great Sand Dunes National Park or Preserve.

Stay the Trail - Hayden Pass
Fremont County, Colorado
This beautiful trail runs between Highways 50 and 285 south of Salida. With great camping along the way, this moderate trail provides great views of the San Isabel and Rio Grande National Forests. Underground springs keep the trail wet in some sections and it can be dangerous when icy early and late in the season.
How To Get There
Head southwest out of town on Co Rd 6/Hayden Creek to access trail.

Syracuse Sand Dunes - Syracuse, KS
Large Area of roughly 1300 acres of sand dunes and miles of ATV trails. The park has a large dirt parking lot with a few trees. Primitive and RV hookup sites are available with a 40-acre fishing pond nearby. This space has recently been upgraded with a large storage and office facility with restrooms and showers.
